A Phantasmagorical View of Pandemic Life

This collection of surreal tableaux vivant images are a personal reflection on two years living with Covid.

All the images were created in my home studio under lockdown conditions with only one model (my son).

Each is a metaphor designed to encourage thought, reflection, and discussion about our individual and shared experiences.

This image explores the debate around religious beliefs and vaccination. It asks what Jesus would have done if there had been a relatively safe way to avoid suffering and save the lives of millions in his time. Would he have advocated for it's use?

How bad did things get for you during the lockdowns?

Nurses have been portrayed as angelic figures during the pandemic. However, there are some within the nursing community who find this view undermines them as highly-trained health professionals.

Is it just me or is there a whiff of an impending apocalypse about current events?

We so often see people wearing masks incorrectly. They don't work if they are not snugly covering your mouth and nose

Protecting ourselves from, testing for, and treating Covid has created a vast amount of waste. Is this an issue we are going to make any effort to sort out or are we going to leave it for the next generation to deal with as we have with so many other problems of our own creation?

Thousands of pets were adopted at the start of the first lockdown. However, many were dumped on shelters when we resumed our lives. This shameful trend continues as tougher economic times hit.

Covid has forced us to change so many aspects of our lives

Millions of children worldwide have been forced to do their schooling from home. The long-term impact of this on the next generation is yet to be seen

One of the most difficult aspects of the pandemic has been separation from friends and family

Elderly, disabled, and immunocompromised people have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. They are more likely to fall ill, be hospitalized, suffer from long-term health effects, or to die from Covid. The lack of care and compassion shown for this group by the young and healthy population is astounding and upsetting. This phenomena has coined a new title 'Health Privilege'

Health workers have worked tirelessly to ease the suffering and save the lives of millions during the pandemic often at the cost of their own health and well being.

Misinformation and conspiracy theories have been rife with many believing what they read online and behaving in an anti-social way believing themselves to be crusaders for freedom

Will there be any long-term health implications from the huge amounts of hand sanitizer we slather on ourselves every day?

Aggressive and violent behavior towards essential workers has spiraled out of control during the pandemic. These often poorly paid people have stepped up and worked under difficult conditions.
